The Emir of Katsina and Chairman of Katsina State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, has conferred the prestigious traditional title of ‘Garkuwan Katsina Babba’ on the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris.
The conferment letter was presented to the governor at the Government House on Friday by a delegation led by the Secretary of the Emirate Council, Alhaji Isah Ali Kankiya.
A statement issued by Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Kebbi State Governor, stated that according to the Emirate Council, the title was based on Governor Idris’s contributions to national development, leadership initiatives, and support for programmes with wider national impact.
The Emir described him as a bridge builder and a source of pride to traditional institutions in the northern states and prayed for God’s continuous guidance.
The honour reflects Governor Idris’s patriotism, detribalized nature, and regular consultations with northern traditional rulers on security, education, and socio-economic development, including his hosting of the Northern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council conference on security challenges chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto earlier this year.
Governor Idris has previously received several traditional titles, including Gwarzon Daular Usmaniyya by the Sultan, Zannan Borno by the Shehu of Borno, Kauran Gwandu, Kauran Nupe, Jigon Kabi, Gamjin Yauri, and Garkuwan Zuru.
