The Senior Special Assistant to Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Trade and Market Affairs, Hon. Abdurrahman Abubakar Gobirawa, has said that no administration in the history of the state has supported traders and market development as much as the current government.

Speaking on the achievements recorded in the state’s commercial sector, Gobirawa highlighted several initiatives introduced by the administration to improve security, infrastructure, and the overall business environment across Kano markets.

According to him, the government has strengthened security by establishing and upgrading security gates in various markets across the state, a move aimed at protecting traders and their goods.

He also disclosed that the administration has embarked on the construction and rehabilitation of roads around major markets to ease traffic congestion, improve accessibility, and attract more business activities.

Gobirawa added that efforts are being intensified to create a business-friendly environment capable of attracting investors and promoting commercial growth.

He further revealed that the state government is developing the new Fam Centre Market, which is expected to operate almost around the clock.

The project also includes the construction of access roads and supporting infrastructure to enhance trading activities within the market and surrounding commercial areas.

On the issue of flooding, the governor’s aide said the government has demonstrated a clear understanding of the challenges facing traders by investing in drainage systems across markets.

He noted that the intervention has significantly reduced flooding incidents, adding that there are currently few, if any, markets experiencing serious flood-related problems.

Gobirawa explained that the government continues to engage traders, particularly roadside vendors, to educate them on proper trading practices and the importance of maintaining order within commercial areas.

Assessing the administration’s performance, he expressed confidence that the government has achieved nearly 90 per cent of its objectives in transforming markets across Kano State.

He also commended the cooperation of chairmen and officials of the 44 local government areas in the state, describing their support as vital to the government’s efforts to strengthen commerce and boost economic development.

The trade adviser concluded by expressing gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment to improving the welfare of traders and promoting economic growth throughout Kano State.
