Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has officially inaugurated a 25-member State Taskforce on Immunization to strengthen the immunization programmes across the state.

The Governor highlighted that the Taskforce members were carefully selected for their proven track records and technical expertise to positively impact immunization efforts and primary healthcare services in Kano State.

The taskforce’s responsibilities include providing leadership and support for the implementation of all immunization activities, as well as supporting other primary healthcare services.

They are also tasked with reviewing and adopting the state’s annual immunization work plan, ensuring it aligns with the State Health Annual Operation Plan (AOP).

Other key duties include conducting quarterly reviews of the immunization work plan, advocating for timely and adequate resource allocation, ensuring the judicious use of funds, and monitoring progress in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health plus Nutrition (RMNCAAH+N) indices.

The taskforce will also review progress in routine immunization delivery to ensure all eligible children are reached and will provide quarterly updates to the State Executive Council.

Governor Yusuf expressed the Kano state government’s expectation that the taskforce will provide the necessary oversight and political and technical support to ensure the complete eradication of vaccine-preventable diseases in the state.

According to him, the taskforce is to be chaired by the State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who also doubles as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, with the Commissioner of Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf as co-chair.
