The District Head of Gwagwarwa, Alhaji Usman Sunusi Aliyu, has turbaned Alhaji Saminu Abdu Gwagwarwa as the San Turakin Gwagwarwa, alongside 70 other newly appointed aides, as part of efforts to strengthen, preserve, and promote the traditional institution in the district.
The colourful turbaning ceremony took place on Saturday at Gwagwarwa Special Primary School, has attracted a large crowd of residents, traditional rulers, community leaders, and well-wishers from across the district and beyond.
Also, the event brought together traditional title holders, elders, youth groups, religious leaders, women leaders, and other stakeholders, reflecting the rich cultural heritage, unity, and communal spirit of the Gwagwarwa people.
The ceremony formally confirmed the appointment of the new aides, who were carefully selected based on their loyalty, integrity, commitment, and long-standing service to the community. The appointments are expected to enhance effective traditional administration and strengthen grassroots governance in the district.
While addressing the gathering, the District Head congratulated the newly turbaned aides and reminded them of the great responsibility placed upon them.
He urged them to discharge their duties with honesty, dedication, and fairness, stressing that traditional leadership is built on service, discipline, and accountability.
Alhaji Usman Sunusi further emphasized that traditional leaders play a vital role in promoting peace, unity, and social harmony, as well as supporting development initiatives at the grassroots level.
He encouraged the aides to work closely with other traditional institutions, security agencies, and government authorities to ensure peace and stability in Gwagwarwa District.
In separate remarks, community leaders and elders commended the District Head for his commitment to strengthening the traditional system and preserving cultural values.
They expressed confidence that the newly appointed aides would use their positions to serve the people and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the district.
In his acceptance speech, the San Turakin Gwagwarwa, Alhaji Saminu Abdu, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the District Head for the confidence reposed in him.
He also thanked community members and well-wishers for honouring the ceremony with their presence and support.
He pledged to work tirelessly and selflessly to uphold the dignity of the traditional institution, promote peace and unity, and carry everyone along without discrimination or favoritism.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers offered by religious leaders for peace, progress, unity, and continued harmony in Gwagwarwa District.
Following the turbaning ceremony, the newly turbaned aides, led by the San Turakin Gwagwarwa, embarked on a colourful Durbar procession through major streets of the district to express appreciation and greet members of the community, adding cultural splendour to the historic occasion.
