…Assure major defeat in 2025

The Defence Headquarters has reported significant successes in its counter-terrorism operations in 2024.

From January to December, troops neutralized over 10,937 terrorists, arrested 12,538 suspects, and rescued 7,063 kidnapped hostages across the country.

In a briefing on Tuesday, Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, stated that troops confronted numerous security challenges throughout the year, including armed banditry, kidnapping, crude oil theft, and insurgency.

“Troops relentlessly pursued terrorist enclaves and strongholds, eliminating over a thousand terrorist leaders and commanders, including notable figures like Dutse Mainasara Idda, Mallam Saleh Umaru, Mohammed Amadu, Chinemerem (aka Bam Bam), Jeremiah Uzuoma (aka Escoba), Tochukwu Awo (aka Ojoto), and Egwuatu,” General Buba said.

He further highlighted the significant operational achievements: “Troops neutralized 10,937 terrorists, arrested 12,538 suspects, and rescued 7,063 hostages. Furthermore, troops recovered 8,815 weapons, including 4,332 AK47 rifles, 1,244 locally fabricated guns, and 838 dane guns.

A total of 228,004 rounds of ammunition were recovered, along with 56,223,002 liters of stolen crude oil and other illicit goods.”

General Buba emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with neighboring countries and regional bodies to effectively combat terrorism.

He assured that the Armed Forces are poised for a major victory against terrorism in 2025, stating, “Troops are in high spirits and committed to achieving success in the new year.”

The military urged citizens to continue supporting their efforts in the fight against terrorism.
