Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfang, has urged Nigerians to embrace peace, unity, and compassion as the nation celebrates its 64th Independence Day.

In a statewide broadcast, the governor acknowledged the challenges facing the country, including economic hardship, insecurity, and criminal activities, but emphasized the need for resilience and hope.

“Despite these trials, Nigeria remains an indivisible nation,” Governor Mutfwang said. “We are bound together by the collective hope for a better future and by the understanding that our strength lies in our diversity,” he said.

To commemorate the Independence Day, the governor announced the pardon of five inmates who have demonstrated exemplary behavior in prison.

This decision, he said, is in line with the prerogative of mercy enshrined in the Nigerian constitution and based on the recommendations of the Plateau State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

Governor Mutfwang also addressed the pressing issues facing Plateau State, assuring citizens of his commitment to finding lasting solutions to the economic downturn, insecurity, and other challenges.

He highlighted his administration’s efforts to implement policies and programs in key sectors such as agriculture, transportation, education, healthcare, and economic development.

“While these solutions may take time, I appeal for your patience and understanding as we implement measures to cushion the effects of crisis,” the governor said. “The road to recovery is challenging, but together, we will prevail.”

The governor urged citizens to maintain their trust in the government’s efforts to restore security and peace in the state.

He assured them that security agencies are working tirelessly to combat insecurity and prioritize their safety and well-being.

“Let us remain hopeful and united in our pursuit of peace, progress, and prosperity for Plateau State and for Nigeria as a whole,” Governor Mutfwang concluded.
