The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will begin displaying the voters’ register and distributing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State on Friday, October 9.
The Head of the INEC Office in Tarauni, Engr. Abubakar Yusuf, disclosed this at a stakeholders’ meeting held to sensitise security agencies, political party leaders and other stakeholders on the exercise.
According to a statement issued by the Tarauni Local Government Information Officer, Adamu Iliyasu Hotoro, on October 8, the exercise will run until October 15, 2026.
Yusuf said the exercise would cover newly registered voters and those who registered previously but had yet to collect their PVCs.
He explained that the display of the voters’ register and distribution of the cards would take place at designated polling units across the wards to enable eligible voters to verify their details and collect their cards.
The exercise will run daily from 9am to 3pm throughout the seven-day period.
Yusuf added that after the exercise, voters would still be able to check their names and collect their PVCs at the INEC office in Tarauni.
He disclosed that approximately 7,042 new and old PVCs were awaiting collection by their owners.
The stakeholders’ meeting was attended by representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Community development groups, Islamic scholars, Hisbah officials and representatives of the APC, NNPP, PDP, NDC and ADC also participated in the meeting.
The participants were briefed on the exercise and the need to ensure that it was conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner.
INEC urged all eligible voters who had not collected their PVCs to visit their designated centres within the stipulated period to verify their names and obtain their cards.
The commission also called for cooperation among security agencies, political parties and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with its rules and guidelines.
