From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of Federal University Dutsinma in Katsina state, Colonel Abulmumini Aminu (rtd), has announced a plan for the establishment of the military unit at the permanent site of the university.
The university, which took off in 2011, cannot move to a permanent site due to insecurity despite the presence of infrastructure.
Currently, with 14 faculties,9,000 staff and 25,000 students, the university is using a temporary site.
Aminu, who spoke with newsmen, said the discussion has reached the advanced stage with military authority for the establishment of the military unit.
“We have reached out to the Federal government and military authority; very soon, a military unit will be established at the permanent site,” he said.
He said the management of the university would provide all the necessary facilities and financial assistance for the running of the military unit.
He regretted that the permanent site was provided with necessary learning and teaching infrastructures, but the infrastructures were not utilized for years due to insecurity problems.
His words: “The federal government sunk billions of naira for the building of these infrastructures; the infrastructures are rooting every day because they are not being utilised.”
Aminu explained that facilities at the temporary site are stretched due to the high population of staff and students.
According to him moving to the permanent site was necessary to address the shortage of office accommodation and lecture room.
“As a military officer, my task is to bring peace to the university; my appointment as Pro chancellor of the university is a national assignment; I will do everything possible to secure the university from any attack by the bandits,” he stressed.Compose Message
