katsina State Government has trained seventy communities to fight against insecurity in the state.
The state Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, revealed this while speaking with newsmen.
Danmusa said the members of the trained communities were selected by the government in collaboration with traditional rulers and ulama.
He said they are to defend and protect their communities from attack by bandits.
According to him, they were given local weapons and other facilities to carry out their work.
“They are expected to work with vigilante groups, community corps and other security personnel,” he said.
Danmusa said the fight against insecurity can only be successful with support from communities.
“Communities must raised to depend on themselves; the bandits are an integral part of the society,” he added.
He further said informants who also aid banditry are within the mix of society.
Danmusa said currently, the government has engaged 40,000 individuals from communities across 34 local governments.
“They are on the payroll of the government; they are engaged in our effort to tackle insecurity,” he further said.
