From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 10, Sokoto, Mr. Gyogon A. Grimah, has assured that the police in his zone will not fail in their supervisory duties, pledging to motivate officers in the field to excel in the fight against insecurity.
Zone 10 comprises the Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara State police commands.
“I won’t claim that insecurity is waning or has ended, especially in our zone, given the numerous incidents we’ve witnessed,” Grimah said. “Even when incidents don’t occur in the cities, negative developments in the outskirts still concern us. The loss of one life is significant — equivalent to many — because of its impact on future generations.”
The AIG said the zone’s management is working in synergy with the three state commands to strengthen and sustain operations that will yield results against criminal activities.
“Insecurity is not over until it is over. A life lost is worrisome and provokes concerns, and we will not relent in evolving necessary operational tactics,” he added.
Grimah, who assumed duty as AIG in charge of Zone 10 in March 2025, stressed the importance of collaboration with the commissioners of police in the states, describing them as the operational heads in their respective jurisdictions.
“The commissioners of police are the hierarchy with operational apparatus in their commands, and we will ensure that our supervisory role is fully executed across the three states,” he said.
According to him, the zonal command focuses on what it is doing to tame criminal activities rather than glorifying the acts of criminals.
“Criminals should not be given the space to feel important, to avoid dampening the spirit of security operatives. We believe tomorrow will be better than today, and that optimism drives us forward,” Grimah stated.
He also appreciated the media for their support, urging journalists to ensure their reports promote national interest and avoid content that could provoke negative public reactions.
“We will maintain a better working relationship with the media to strengthen our operations,” the AIG added.
