The Katsina State Ministry of Finance has deployed supervisors and field officers to 121 ministries and government parastatals to improve the implementation of fiscal policies and strengthen compliance with financial rules and regulations.
The exercise, conducted under the Financial Management Monitoring (FMM) initiative, is the first of its kind in the state.
Speaking at a briefing for the supervisors and field officers ahead of the exercise, the State Commissioner for Finance, Bello Kagara, said the monitoring programme was designed to assess financial management processes across ministries and government parastatals.
Kagara said the findings would guide improvements in financial management procedures, strengthen compliance with fiscal policies and enhance efficiency in public spending.
He added that the exercise would help identify gaps in the implementation of financial policies and ensure that the receipt, disbursement and utilisation of public funds complied with applicable laws and regulations.
“The monitoring exercise was designed to assess funding arrangements, expenditure processes and financial management across ministries and parastatals,” he said.
The commissioner commended Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for promoting the prudent use of public funds to improve service delivery.
He said the administration had recorded achievements in healthcare, education, water supply, road construction, economic development and agriculture.
Kagara also said the state’s internally generated revenue had increased under Radda’s administration, rising from N600 million to N3 billion monthly.
He maintained that the administration had fulfilled some of its campaign promises and urged residents to protect government projects provided in their communities.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Aminu Badaru Jimkamshi, urged the supervisors and field officers to familiarise themselves with the questionnaires and guide officials of the respective ministries in providing accurate information.
Jimkamshi stressed that field officers should explain the questionnaires to respondents rather than complete the forms on their behalf.
Also speaking, the Governor’s Technical Adviser on the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Dr Salisu Ladan Sabuwa, charged the officers to collect reliable and accurate data during the exercise.
Sabuwa said the government had engaged experts to analyse the data collected, adding that the reliability of the findings would depend on the quality of information provided by participants.
