The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) has signed an amended Memorandum of Understanding worth $12,347,071.44 with the Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) for the procurement of agricultural machinery aimed at enhancing mechanisation and food security in the state.
Under the agreement, a range of modern farming equipment—including tractors, combined harvesters, planters, transplanters, boom sprayers, and solar-powered water pumping machines—will be supplied to boost productivity and reduce post-harvest losses among smallholder farmers.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Ameen Kabeer Yassar, the Project Communication Specialist, KSADP.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, KSADP Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, said the project also covers the provision of rice milling machines, onion storage facilities, and land preparation tools.
“This amended MoU is geared towards supporting the Kano State government’s efforts to transition from crude tools to mechanised farming. It will enhance precision farming, increase productivity, and curb post-harvest losses,” he said.
Muhammad noted that the KSADP is jointly funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF), and the Kano State Government.
He added that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, the Kano State Development Plan, and IsDB’s development strategy.
Also speaking at the event, Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Danjuma Mahmoud, described the initiative as a major leap towards modernising agriculture and making it more appealing to the youth.
On his part, the Country Director of SAA-Nigeria, Dr Godwin Atser, hailed the partnership as a significant milestone in the state’s agricultural transformation journey.
“Our collaboration with KSADP over the last five years has yielded impactful results, and this new agreement will further strengthen our shared vision,” Atser said.
