The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, has advised members of the public to comply with the curfew, warning that there would be strict enforcement.

Following the relaxation of the 48-hour curfew by the Governor, seven persons were arrested, including one fake soldier identified as Yakubu Abdullahi, 26, who was found wearing a military uniform along with an extra shirt and in possession of a forged Nigerian Military School identity card.

While parading the suspects before newsmen on Wednesday at the Police Headquarters in Jos, the commissioner said the command also arrested one Matthew Musa, 27, who was found in possession of two locally made firearms.

The suspects are currently under investigation at the State CID and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

CP Ewah further disclosed that in the early hours of Wednesday, a disagreement among some youths in the Nassarawa Gwong community of Jos North Local Government Area caused minor tension in the area.

Unfortunately, some hoodlums and crisis merchants took advantage of the situation to create fear and panic among traders and students within the university community.

However, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, swiftly intervened, brought the situation under control, and restored calm.

Efforts have also been made by the police, the state government, and the school authorities to provide buses to convey students to their preferred destinations.

Meanwhile, massive security deployment has been put in place to safeguard other students and school facilities.

The Commissioner warned all criminal elements intending to exploit the situation to cause mayhem in the state that the command will not hesitate to deal with them in accordance with the law.

He further emphasized that the command will not stand by and allow lawless hoodlums to turn the state into a theatre of violence.

The commissioner therefore called on parents, traditional and religious leaders to caution their children, wards, congregants, and followers to comply with the curfew, stressing that the command will show no leniency in enforcing the law.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or contact the command’s control room through the provided numbers.
