The Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State, Hon. Lawan Najume Kano, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as remarkable achievements in education, agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure and water supply across the state.
Speaking in an interview, the chairman said the recent employment of qualified teachers, particularly holders of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), was a major milestone in strengthening primary education.
He noted that although schools are currently on holiday, the newly recruited teachers have already received their appointment letters and will begin enjoying their salaries, describing the gesture as evidence of the governor’s commitment to improving education.
According to him, the employment of qualified teachers will address the shortage of personnel in primary schools and improve the quality of teaching across the state.
The chairman also praised Governor Yusuf for the timely distribution of subsidised fertiliser to farmers, saying the exercise was transparent and benefited farmers regardless of their political affiliation.
He disclosed that each bag was sold at N25,000 and commended the distribution committee for ensuring accountability, stressing that no fertiliser was diverted.
“The intervention has boosted farming activities in Kano State and will contribute significantly to increased agricultural productivity,” he said.
On water supply, the chairman acknowledged that Kabo Local Government had been making efforts to address water challenges before the state government intervened by repairing faulty water engines.
He said the repaired facilities now provide water not only to Kabo but also to neighbouring communities, adding that access to clean water remains a priority because “water is life.”
Speaking on infrastructure, the chairman said Kabo had benefited from eight road projects under the administration of Governor Yusuf.
He described the projects as unprecedented, noting that no administration since 1999 had executed such a number of road projects in the local government.
He added that his administration had also continued to rehabilitate rural roads to ease transportation for farmers, traders and other residents.
On education support, the chairman said the local government provides scholarships to students and encourages school dropouts to return to school.
He explained that secondary school graduates are assisted in securing admission into tertiary institutions, while special attention is also given to the education and welfare of orphans.
The chairman further applauded the governor’s investments in the health sector, particularly the renovation and expansion of hospitals across the state.
He said Kabo Local Government complements the state’s efforts by supporting primary healthcare services, including maternal healthcare, medical tests and scanning for women.
According to him, the council recently donated mattresses to Garo Hospital and continues to provide assistance to health facilities within the area.
He added that the local government had also embraced initiatives aimed at supporting people living with sickle cell disease, in line with the governor’s healthcare programmes.
Commenting on the distribution of plots of land by the state government, the chairman described the initiative as a commendable effort to empower party supporters and grassroots political workers, saying it would improve their livelihoods.
He also expressed support for the state’s Auren Gata mass marriage programme, saying Kabo Local Government was fully prepared to participate.
According to him, the programme goes beyond marriage by providing beneficiaries with start-up capital to establish businesses, particularly in rural communities.
The chairman maintained that all the 44 local government councils in Kano are now better positioned to deliver development because of Governor Yusuf’s support and interventions.
On politics, he called on residents to support the APC in the 2027 general elections.
He urged voters to elect APC candidates from the presidency to the governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly, expressing confidence that Governor Yusuf would secure a landslide victory unmatched by any gubernatorial candidate in Kano State since 1999.
