From Mustapha Saye, Kaduna

Academic activities have resumed in Kaduna State tertiary institutions following the suspension of the industrial strike action by the Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions (JUTIKS).

The development came after Governor Uba Sani approved a new salary structure for staff of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria; Shehu Idris College of Health Sciences and Technology, Makarfi; and the Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday confirming that the new salary structure, which had been demanded by workers for over 15 years, marked a major step toward aligning their wages with national standards.

Governor Sani’s approval of the pay rise, according to the statement, underscores his administration’s commitment to improving educational development, staff welfare, and institutional reforms across the state.

Following the suspension of the strike, lectures and other academic activities have resumed in the affected institutions, bringing relief to students, parents, and other stakeholders in the education sector.

The union expressed appreciation to the governor for responding to their long-standing demands and pledged its support for his administration’s educational transformation agenda in Kaduna State.
