Stakeholders in the Kannywood industry under the umbrella of the Kannywood Political Coalition have declared their support for the re-election bid of Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group made the declaration when they paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, in his office.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment in the Ministry, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, and made available to journalists, the government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnership with stakeholders in the entertainment industry to promote public enlightenment and government programmes.
Speaking during the visit, Commissioner Waiya described Kannywood as one of the largest entertainment industries in Northern Nigeria, noting that it plays a significant role in shaping public opinion and mobilising citizens.
He said the state government would continue to collaborate with industry players by using films, music, and drama as tools for sensitising the public on issues such as health, education, security, and other areas of development.
Waiya urged Kannywood practitioners to explore ways of expanding the industry, assuring them of government support to improve their operations and enable them compete favourably with their counterparts globally.
The Commissioner commended the coalition members for their decision to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing it as a reflection of their confidence in his leadership qualities and commitment to the development of Kano State.
He highlighted some achievements of the administration in areas including healthcare, education, infrastructure, security, water supply, and youth and women empowerment across the 44 local government areas of the state.
According to him, the administration is currently executing over 1,550 projects across Kano, with about 700 already completed while others are at various stages of completion.
“This administration is currently executing more than 1,550 projects across the state, out of which 700 projects have already been completed, while the remaining are at various stages of completion,” Waiya said.
He assured the coalition that the ministry would work closely with Kannywood stakeholders to ensure government achievements and policies are effectively communicated to citizens through local languages and relatable formats.
Earlier, leader of the delegation, Alhaji Hamisu Lamido Iyan Tama, said the group visited the ministry to formally declare their support for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s second-term ambition.
He explained that the coalition comprises stakeholders from the Kannywood industry who came together to support the governor’s programmes and ensure his victory in the 2027 election.
Hamisu Iyan Tama noted that despite members belonging to different political parties and backgrounds, they united under one platform because of their belief in the governor’s achievements.
He said the administration’s development strides motivated them to show appreciation and publicly express their support for the governor’s continuation in office.
The coalition members also pledged to use their platforms to promote government policies and mobilise support ahead of future political engagements.
