The Chairman of Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, Hon. Sani Ahmed Mai Rago, has commended the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for introducing a 50 percent fertiliser subsidy programme aimed at supporting farmers and boosting agricultural production across the state.
Hon. Mai Rago described the initiative as a timely intervention that demonstrates Governor Yusuf’s unwavering commitment to improving the livelihoods of rural farmers and enhancing food security in Kano State.
According to the chairman, the subsidy has significantly reduced the financial burden on farmers, particularly at a time when the cost of agricultural inputs continues to rise.
He noted that the programme would enable more farmers to access quality fertiliser, increase crop yields, and contribute meaningfully to the state’s agricultural development.
Mai Rago expressed profound appreciation to Governor Yusuf for extending the intervention to all 44 local government areas, saying the gesture reflects a leadership that prioritises the welfare of the people.
He assured the governor that the Dawakin Kudu Local Government Council would strictly implement all directives issued by the state government regarding the distribution exercise.
The chairman pledged that only genuine farmers would benefit from the programme, stressing that transparency, fairness, and accountability would guide the entire process.
“We sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for this remarkable support to our farmers. We will ensure that the fertiliser reaches those it is intended for in line with the governor’s directives, without favouritism or diversion,” he said.
Mai Rago further urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the subsidised fertiliser to maximise this year’s farming season and contribute to increased food production across Kano State.
The Kano State Government recently commenced the distribution of about 90,000 bags of fertiliser at a 50 percent subsidised rate to farmers across the state’s 44 local government areas as part of efforts to strengthen agriculture, improve food security, and enhance the economic well-being of citizens.
