The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya has described former councillors in the state as some of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s original grassroots ambassadors, saying their longstanding support for the governor political journey remains significant to the administration.

Waiya made the remarks during the inauguration of the Ex-APC Councillors Forum (Maslaha) executive leadership for Kano North and Kano South held at Mumbayya House in Kano where he assured the former councillors that the Governor Yusuf administration would continue to recognise and support them.

According to him, Governor Yusuf decision to settle the outstanding entitlements of the former councillors was not merely a political calculation, but a commitment driven by a genuine concern for their welfare. He said the governor had demonstrated that when a person does good and remains patient, the reward would eventually come.

The commissioner urged the former councillors to remain calm and united, assuring them that there was no major decision by the governor concerning them that would be taken without carrying them along. He also called on them to strengthen their cooperation and mobilisation efforts in support of the administration.

Waiya said he did not join the government to make money, stressing that his presence was motivated by a desire to contribute his resources, strength and experience towards helping Governor Yusuf fulfil his responsibility to the people of Kano State. He added that anyone who had the opportunity to support a good initiative by the governor should not hesitate to do so.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Former Kano State Councillors Forum, Hon. Sanusi Kara Madobi, pledged the group’s full support for Governor Yusuf, saying the former councillors would work tirelessly to ensure his re-election and the victory of other candidates supported by the administration.

Kata Madobi said the former councillors would not betray the confidence reposed in them by the governor, particularly in view of the administration’s efforts to address challenges they had endured for years. He also warned members against supporting opposition figures whom he alleged had no meaningful plans for the welfare of former councillors and the people of Kano State.

The forum urged its members to remain united, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and continue working collectively in support of Governor Yusuf, describing the administration engagement with former councillors as an opportunity to deepen cooperation between the government and its grassroots political structures.
