The Kano State Government on Sunday received the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar, during his visit to the state.
Yari and his entourage were received by the Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the residence of the leader of the Qadiriyya Movement in Kano, Sheikh Qaribullahi Nasiru Kabara.

Garo assured the delegation of the state government’s support and cooperation with the campaign council, while acknowledging the Federal Government’s programmes and policies in health, education, the economy, security and agriculture.
The deputy governor also called on citizens to continue praying and supporting efforts aimed at achieving peace, unity and harmony, saying the government was working towards lasting security.
He described Kano’s inclusion among the early states visited by the campaign team as a sign of respect for the state and assured the delegation of the support of Kano residents.
Garo added that engagement with Ulama and other respected stakeholders would strengthen efforts towards national development and economic stability.
Speaking during the visit, Yari said the delegation was in Kano to seek prayers and support from Ulama and other prominent stakeholders as part of its nationwide consultations ahead of the 2027 general election.
“We are here to seek prayers and support from our Ulama and prominent stakeholders as part of our nationwide engagement ahead of the 2027 general election,” Yari said.
He said the council had earlier engaged members of the Tijaniyya in Bauchi, Izala in Jos and Kaduna, as well as the Qadiriyya, as part of its consultations.
Yari said the responses from the groups had been encouraging and that similar engagements would continue across the country.
He explained that the decision to begin the campaign’s engagements with religious leaders was informed by his belief that they had significant influence among their followers, particularly through regular prayers and Friday congregational activities.
The campaign DG also said the council would not rely solely on political rallies, but would organise town hall meetings to discuss issues affecting Nigerians and obtain feedback from the people.
“We will not rely solely on rallies. We will also organise town hall meetings where issues affecting the people will be discussed and feedback obtained,” he said.
Responding, Sheikh Qaribullahi Nasiru Kabara appreciated the delegation for visiting and choosing Kano as one of the states for the flag-off of its engagements.
The Qadiriyya leader said Yari was not a stranger to the movement, describing him as a welcome guest and assuring the delegation that its doors remained open for collaboration towards the development of the country.
He said such collaboration could contribute to economic prosperity, security, healthcare, agriculture and other areas of national development.
The delegation included former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff; former Kebbi State Governor, Adamu Aliero; former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari; James Abiodun Faleke; and APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, among others.
The engagement forms part of the APC campaign council’s wider consultations with religious and other influential stakeholders ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Contemporary reports have also identified the Qadiriyya leadership’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election as part of the Kano engagement.
