The Katsina State Executive Council has approved the adoption and dissemination of the 2025 General Household Survey (GHS) to strengthen data-driven governance and accelerate rural transformation across the state.

The approval was granted during the 8th Regular Meeting of the State Executive Council presided over by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda on Wednesday.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the State Statistician-General, Professor Sa’ifullahi Sani Matazu, said the survey would provide a comprehensive statewide baseline data framework for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as development partners operating in the state.

He explained that the initiative was aimed at addressing the persistent challenge of inadequate data, which has continued to affect effective policy formulation, planning and implementation in key sectors.

Matazu noted that the adoption of the survey would also support the implementation of a results-based integrated rural transformation model designed to improve socio-economic development and public service delivery across communities in the state.

According to him, the availability of accurate and updated household data would enhance evidence-based decision-making, improve resource allocation, and strengthen the monitoring and evaluation of government programmes.

The Statistician-General added that the initiative reflected the commitment of the present administration to institutionalising reliable statistics as a critical tool for sustainable development and inclusive governance.

The resolution formed part of the decisions reached at the council meeting, where several memoranda and reports were considered and approved.
