From Muawuya Bals Idris, Katsina

Katsina State Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe has expressed concern over the decay in the country’s societal values and called for collective action to address the problem.

He said it is the responsibility of all Nigerians to rise and work as a united force to change the situation and set the nation on the right path.

Jobe spoke at a town hall meeting on the National Values Charter and National Anthem organised by the Katsina State office of the National Orientation Agency(NOA).

The Deputy Governor said Nigeria as a country is richly blessed with abundant natural resources and a wealth of human talent, lamenting that both are being misused and underutilised.

He explained that the non-utilisation of these natural resources hindered the nation’s progress.

Jobe reminded Nigerians that the tasks of rebuilding the nation and redefining its future are enormous, emphasising that both leaders and citizens must all rise to achieve such an objective. He described the town hall meeting as timely in view of the serious moral and ethical challenges facing the nation.

He said: “We must revive and re-emphasize our shared value to ensure a prosperous and united Nigeria.”

Jobe urged participants of the meeting to internalise the message of the national values charter and reflect on the meaning of the National Anthem.

Earlier, Director NOA in Katsina, Muhtari Tsagam, expressed concern about the failure of government agencies at both the federal and state levels to hoist the national flags on their premises.

Tsagam said the few that hoist are using the substandard ones or mishandling the items.
