The Katsina State Government has inaugurated a technical committee to review the development of the state’s proposed Light Rail Master Plan.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari, inaugurated the committee in his office in Katsina.

Faskari said the proposed light rail project was initiated as part of efforts to strengthen urban transportation and modern infrastructure development in the state.

According to him, the committee will be headed by the State Commissioner for Works, Engineer Sani Magaji, with representatives drawn from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, and the Urban and Regional Planning Board.

Other members include representatives from the Katsina State Management Board, the State Transport Authority, the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, and the Ministry of Environment, while the Governor’s Office will serve as the secretariat.

He stated that the committee is mandated to examine the proposal, assess its technical and financial viability, and evaluate its alignment with the Katsina State Development Master Plan (2025–2040).

The committee is also expected to advise the government on the feasibility, sustainability, and strategic importance of the proposed light rail initiative.

Faskari charged members of the committee to work diligently toward achieving the set objectives.

He noted that the inauguration of the committee reflects the commitment of the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda toward building a modern, connected, and economically vibrant Katsina State.
