The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Interior and member representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency in Katsina State, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, has disbursed N54,270,000 as scholarship allowances to 2,199 students from his constituency pursuing tertiary education across the country.

The disbursement took place on Saturday at the Musawa Local Government Secretariat, with beneficiaries drawn from various political wards in Musawa and Matazu Local Governments following a rigorous screening by the Education Committee.

According to records obtained by our correspondent, 1,029 university students received N30,000 each, totaling N30,870,000, while 1,170 students pursuing National Diploma (ND) and National Certificate in Education (NCE) in Colleges of Education and Polytechnics were granted N20,000 each, amounting to N23,400,000.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Ahmed said the initiative was aimed at supporting students from less privileged families, enabling them to compete effectively with peers from wealthier backgrounds.

“We are focusing our political ideology and programmes on building and empowering the youths to secure their future and the future of society,” he said.

Ahmed further pledged to intensify efforts in youth development through education, skills acquisition, agricultural programmes, and employment opportunities.

He revealed plans to secure employment letters for 420 constituents across all electoral wards in the Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency.

The lawmaker also highlighted previous achievements, noting that he had facilitated federal appointments for over 181 constituents across various sectors including the Federal Teaching Hospitals, Federal Medical Centres, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

In addition to scholarships, Hon. Ahmed announced the distribution of 500 brand-new motorcycles to youths to ease transportation challenges in the constituency.

He said an initial batch of 350 motorcycles had been procured, with an additional 150 purchased to accommodate more beneficiaries.

On infrastructure, Ahmed disclosed that 200 boreholes had been drilled in various locations to improve access to water, and he sponsored the ongoing construction of a Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre in Jikamshi town.

Former Deputy Governor Tukur Ahmed Jimkamshi commended the initiative, urging scholarship recipients to make judicious use of the funds and focus on their studies.

Similarly, Professor Kabir Matazu, Executive Secretary of the Science and Technical School Board, endorsed Hon. Ahmed for a second term, citing his impactful programmes in improving lives and driving development in the constituency.

In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of Musawa Local Government, Hon. Aliyu Idris Gingin, described the scholarship initiative as a developmental drive designed to bring democratic dividends closer to rural dwellers, aligning with the education-focused agenda of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration.
