The Katsina State Government has stated that it is working on the implementation of a new minimum wage for workers in the state, with the policy expected to take effect in 2027.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Tanimu Saulawa, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Katsina on Tuesday.
He assured workers that the government remained committed to improving their welfare through better remuneration.
“Let me assure workers in Katsina State that the government is working to introduce a new minimum wage to enhance their welfare. Workers will begin to enjoy the new wage next year,” Saulawa said.
He added that the administration of Governor Dikko Umar Radda would continue to introduce policies aimed at addressing challenges facing workers and improving conditions across the state’s public service.
According to him, adequate funds have been earmarked in the 2027 budget for the training and retraining of workers to enhance their productivity and service delivery.
On preparations for the 2027 general elections, Saulawa said his office would embark on a sensitisation campaign to educate workers on the achievements of the Radda administration.
“We will inform and sensitise workers on the achievements recorded by the present administration so that they will appreciate what the government has done for the state,” he said.
Reacting to complaints from some workers over the ongoing staff verification exercise, the Special Adviser maintained that the exercise was designed to eliminate ghost workers from the state’s payroll rather than victimise genuine employees.
“Those complaining about the verification exercise are not genuine workers. If their complaints are genuine, let them present the necessary documents to defend themselves,” Saulawa stated.
