In a significant move to boost basic education, Kano State Government has approved the recruitment 4,000 teachers as permanent and pensionable in addition to 3688 to serve as temporary teachers for 9 months in state public schools.

This was revealed by the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, on Sunday, during a press briefing held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Gidan Murtala,

He said “4,000 of the successful applicants have been granted permanent and pensionable appointments under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), while 3,688 others will serve on a nine-month temporary basis under the Abba Gida-Gida BESDA Cohort Five programme.”

According to him, the recruitment exercise drew over 16,000 applicants who participated in a recently conducted aptitude test, from which the successful candidates emerged.

Dr. Makoda explained that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the appointments based on merit, with the top-performing candidates securing permanent roles, while others who also performed well were considered for temporary engagement.

He noted that the initiative is designed to address the shortage of teachers, improve learning outcomes in public schools, and create employment opportunities for qualified graduates.

Describing the exercise as timely, the commissioner said it reflects the government’s commitment to revitalising the education sector.

He further commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for expanding the recruitment, noting that the move would allow more young people to contribute to the growth of education in the state.

“Under the able leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Abba Gida Gida, the ministry of education remains committed to sustain policies and initiatives that promote functional educational development and equitable access to quality learning opportunities for all students in the state,” he assured.
