The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising digital literacy and building the capacity of civil servants to bridge digital competence gaps.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Information, Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Ameen Kabeer Yassar, the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, stated this during the presentation of certificates to 65 participants who completed a six-week computer appreciation course organised for staff of the ministry in collaboration with MIK Info Tech Ltd.
Waiya said the training was part of the government’s efforts to improve service delivery and ensure efficiency in line with global technological trends.
“This training is one of the government’s priorities to ensure that service delivery is effective and efficient, in line with prevailing trends all over the world,” he said.
The commissioner noted that in a rapidly changing world, information dissemination relies heavily on digital platforms, stressing that ICT training would enhance the capacity of information officers and other categories of workers to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of information while promoting e-governance.
He urged participants to continue updating their skills and knowledge, saying that staying relevant requires deliberate efforts to maximise individual potentials.
Waiya also advised information officers to improve their English language proficiency, describing it as essential for effective public presentations, public relations management, and avoiding costly miscommunication.
The commissioner further announced the establishment of a three-member committee in the ministry to document staff interested in returning to school for further education, with a view to providing possible support.
“As long as I remain Commissioner in this ministry, I will support skills development because doing so will improve your productivity and competence,” he said.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of MIK Info Tech Ltd., Engr. Mahmud Isa Kawo, said the training covered basic computing skills, word processing, and other areas designed to make participants more ICT proficient within a short period.
Highlights of the occasion included the presentation of laptops to the three best-performing trainees and certificates to all participants.
