The Kano State House of Assembly has constituted a 12-member committee to screen Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo as the nominated Deputy Governor of the state.
The committee, chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu Butu, is expected to submit its report on Monday.
The development follows the transmission of Garo’s name to the Assembly by the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for screening and confirmation.
It will be recalled that the former Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, resigned from office, creating a vacancy.
The position became vacant following his voluntary resignation on March 27, 2026.
After wide consultations with key stakeholders, the Governor formally requested the Assembly to grant the necessary approval for Garo’s nomination.
Murtala Sule Garo, 48, is a seasoned political administrator with over two decades of experience in both elective and appointed positions.
He has served as State Organising Secretary of his party, Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor, and as the elected Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area.
Garo also held positions as Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano State chapter, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections.
His nomination is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and enhance effective service delivery in Kano State.
