The Kano State Commissioner for Commerce, Honourable Namadi Dala, has conveyed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s sympathy to traders and the business community at Yankatako Kofar Ruwa Market following a recent fire outbreak that destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
The commissioner disclosed this when he represented Governor Yusuf during an inspection visit to the market to assess the extent of the damage caused by the fire disaster.
Speaking during the visit, Namadi Dala assured the traders that Governor Yusuf was deeply concerned about their situation and fully sympathised with those affected by the incident.
He explained that the governor had specifically directed him to visit the market and convey his sympathy and solidarity to the affected traders and the entire market community.
The commissioner also commended the market leadership for taking steps to provide water facilities at various strategic locations within the market to help prevent and respond to future fire outbreaks.
He assured the traders that the Ministry of Commerce would continue to work closely with market associations and executives across the state to strengthen commercial activities and attract foreign investors to Kano.
According to him, such efforts would complement Governor Yusuf’s policy of restoring Kano’s position as a major commercial and economic centre.
Namadi Dala described Governor Yusuf as a leader committed to the development of Kano State and its surrounding communities.
He further stated that the administration had recorded significant progress in fulfilling its development agenda and campaign promises, claiming that approximately 95 per cent of its promises had been achieved within its first term.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Yankatako Kofar Ruwa Market Association, Alhaji Aminu Nata, disclosed that goods and properties worth more than N600 million had been destroyed in the fire outbreak.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for showing concern and extending his sympathy to the affected traders and the business community.
The chairman, however, appealed to the Kano State Government to modernise Kofar Ruwa Market by providing an improved road network and other essential facilities that meet modern market standards.
In conclusion, the market association expressed its appreciation to the commissioner for the visit and prayed for his safe return, as well as the success of his leadership and the Kano State Government.
