The Kogi State Police Command on Tuesday revealed that it has prohibited the use of vehicles with covered number plates, as well as unregistered vehicles and motorcycles throughout the state.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer SP William Ovye Aya who made this known in a statement on Tuesday, stated that the Commissioner of Police Bethrand Onuoha issued the order in response to intelligence indicating that criminals exploit covered plate numbers to engage in illegal activities.

“This practice has hindered law enforcement efforts to combat crime in the state,” the statement emphasized.

The Commissioner advised vehicle owners with covered plates to remove them and urged those with unregistered vehicles to complete their registration or face impoundment.

“It is illegal for vehcle owners and drivers to obscure their number plates or operate without a registration number,” the Commissioner warned while urging the public to comply with this directive.

The statement further confirmed that the Police will soon begin impounding vehicles and prosecuting offenders.

The Commissioner, in addition, urged citizens to register their vehicles, eliminate covered number plates, and replace any defaced plates to avoid sanction from the Police authorities.
