The Katsina State Government has commenced the drilling of 3,000 tube wells across irrigation sites in the state as part of its commitment to strengthening irrigation farming and enhancing food production.

The Managing Director of the Katsina Irrigation Development Authority, Engineer Salim Suleiman, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen.

He stated that the project is expected to cost the government about ₦322 million.

According to Suleiman, the tube wells will be distributed free of charge to irrigation farmers to support and motivate them to increase productivity.

He further explained that the authority has put in place a monitoring team that will oversee the utilization of the tube wells to ensure they are properly and efficiently used by the beneficiaries.

The Managing Director also revealed that the authority has organized a specialized training programme for agricultural extension workers and irrigation officers.

He said the training is designed to strengthen their knowledge and technical capacity to better assist farmers with modern agricultural practices.

Suleiman noted that the training forms part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to equip extension workers and dry-season farmers with the necessary skills to improve agricultural output and boost food production in the state.
