The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC) has commenced the screening of candidates ahead of the February local government elections.

The screening process is being monitored and supervised by officials from the ICPC, NDLEA, the Code of Conduct Bureau, EFCC, and other security agencies.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Commission, Lawal Alhassan Faskari, stated that the screening is in line with the guidelines and timetable approved for the elections.

Faskari further explained that the exercise complies with Section 16(1) of the state Electoral Law as amended.

He noted that the amended law stipulates that “there shall be a state screening committee that will screen and clear candidates for election by the provisions of this law.”

Faskari also mentioned that any candidate who is dissatisfied with the decision of the screening committee may appeal to the commission for a review by filling out a form provided by KTSIEC.

He emphasized that the commission is committed to conducting a free, fair, and credible election and urged candidates to cooperate with the members of the screening committee to ensure the success of the process.
