The Majma’u-Ahbab Association of Nigeria has commemorated the 40th anniversary of the birth of renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass, with a call on the Federal Government to intensify efforts toward addressing insecurity in the country.

Speaking during the event, the association highlighted pressing security challenges facing the nation, including kidnapping, insurgency by Boko Haram, abductions, and the payment of ransom by victims.

The group also expressed concern over the persistent invasion of communities by armed groups, stressing the need for decisive and sustained action to restore peace and stability across the country.

As part of the commemoration, special prayers were offered, with the association urging both religious leaders and government authorities to adopt new strategies that would ensure lasting security and national cohesion.

Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass was described at the event as an erudite scholar, prolific writer, and a leading figure in Islamic thought, credited with authoring over 70 books covering Islamic jurisprudence, Arabic grammar, ethics, and mysticism.

The event, held in Katsina State, attracted millions of Muslim faithful who gathered for the Maulud celebration. Participants also paid tribute to the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, acknowledging his immense contributions to the development of Islam, particularly in the field of Sufism.

Scholars noted that the late cleric’s efforts aligned with the teachings of Sheikh Nyass and the legacy of Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani, founder of the Tijjaniyya movement.

They further urged Muslims to intensify prayers for the nation through regular recitation of the Holy Qur’an and supplications, including Hasbunallahu wa ni’imal wakeel and Salat alan-Nabi, as part of efforts to promote peace and unity.

Dignitaries at the event included the Governor of Katsina State, Umar Dikko Radda, who served as chief host; the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II; and the Emir of Katsina.

Other prominent attendees were the National President of Majma’u-Ahbab, Sheikh Tijjani Auwalu; Kano State Commissioner for Religious Affairs; the Kano Grand Khalifa, Sheikh Muhammad Mahi; the National Assistant Secretary, Malam Shehu Bello Abubakar; as well as Malam Rabi’u Musa and Malam Danbaffa, among others.
