The Police in Cross River State have confirmed the arrest of a 49-year-old man, Idris Abdullahi, in connection with the alleged murder of another man following a violent altercation in Calabar.

According to police information received on June 15, 2026, at about 11:05 a.m., the incident reportedly stemmed from an earlier dispute between Abdullahi and a group of unidentified youths along Mary Slessor Road on June 14, 2026, during which he allegedly sustained injuries.

Police sources disclosed that on June 15, Abdullahi allegedly tracked down one of the individuals involved in the dispute to Chronicle Barracks Road, opposite Akim Police Barracks, where he reportedly chased and stabbed the victim with a knife.

The victim was immediately rushed to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) for treatment but was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The deceased’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The suspect is currently in police custody, while the case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Police authorities say efforts are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
