Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a public service that is efficient, professional, and responsive to the needs of the people.

Speaking at the 2026 May Day Celebration held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, the Governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, assured workers that their welfare remains a top priority of his administration.

Governor Yusuf said his government will continue to implement policies that promote fairness, reward diligence, and ensure a conducive working environment for civil servants across the state.

“May Day is not only a celebration of the resilience, dedication, and sacrifices of workers but also a reminder that the workforce remains the engine room of governance and development,” he stated.

He noted that although this year’s theme, “Insecurity and Poverty: The Bane of Decent Work,” reflects current socio-economic realities, his administration is intensifying efforts through expanded social interventions aimed at reducing the cost of living, strengthening security across communities, and improving economic stability.

The Governor also highlighted notable progress in the area of retirees’ welfare, revealing that over N48 billion in inherited pension and gratuity arrears has been significantly reduced.

He added that the remaining N16 billion balance is expected to be fully settled before the end of his first tenure.

Governor Yusuf further disclosed that civil servants have benefited from various capacity-building programmes both within and outside the state, while the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) also received government support for training initiatives targeting its members.

To strengthen service delivery, the Governor announced the recruitment of thousands of new workers to fill critical manpower gaps in the civil service, urging workers to reciprocate government efforts with renewed dedication, integrity, and commitment.

“Let us work together to build a state where excellence in service delivery becomes the norm, and where every worker takes pride in contributing to the progress of Kano,” he concluded.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Chapter, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, expressed appreciation on behalf of workers for the Governor’s interventions in restoring confidence in the civil service.

He reaffirmed the 100 percent support of the workforce for the present administration, citing its worker-friendly policies.
