Sokoto state is on higher alert as one suspicious case of the Monkeypox disease outbreak has been identified and is presently under extermination.

The state commissioner of the Ministry of Health, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the situation in Sokoto.

Balarabe, who spoke through the Director of Public Health of the ministry, Dr Abdulganiyyu Yusuf, stated the suspected case discovered in the state is under investigation.

The commissioner also assured that there is no cause for alarm for the suspected disease outbreak of the Mpox virus in the state.

Already, the ministry has taken the only suspicious disease sample to Abuja for analysis and will immediately inform the public of the outcome and findings of the extermination.

“This is because the only thing we have is suspicion, which is yet to be confirmed.”

“So we are on a high alert, and we have alerted all our disease surveillance officers across the 23 local government areas in the state.

According to Dr Yusuf, presently, we are having training on Mpox and other diseases to place and prepare medical personnel on alert mode as in the situation in the state.

“The ministry, under the leadership of Commissioner Hajiya Balarabe, is always ready to notify and create awareness on Mpox, especially as regards how to identify the disease and what measures the public should take.

He described the commissioner as a very serious woman, hardworking and a determined mother when it comes to healthcare issues.
