The Matawallen Matazu Foundation, a non-governmental organisation in Katsina State, has distributed empowerment packages, food items, and teaching materials worth over ₦1 billion to residents of Matazu Local Government Area.
The items distributed include water pumping machines for irrigation, 500 sewing machines, and 2,000 bags of rice. Teaching and learning materials were also shared with all primary schools in the local government.
Speaking at the event in Matazu, Governor Dikko Umar Radda commended the foundation’s founder, Engr. Abubakar Matazu, for his humanitarian gesture. Represented by his Special Assistant on Political Parties, Alhaji Shafi’u Duwan, the governor said the intervention would help beneficiaries generate income and improve livelihoods.
Radda urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items and called on philanthropists, elected officials, and political appointees to emulate the foundation’s example.
Engr. Abubakar Matazu, who is also the General Manager of the Katsina State Rural Electrification Board, explained that the foundation’s initiative was designed to complement the state government’s development efforts.
He disclosed that the food items were targeted at victims of banditry and flood disasters, while the teaching materials were part of efforts to revive education at the grassroots.
Matazu further announced that the foundation would soon commence capital development projects aimed at improving the living standards of the people.
In his goodwill message, the representative of Fagachin Katsina and Magaji Karaduwa expressed appreciation to Governor Radda for appointing Engr. Matazu to head the Rural Electrification Board, describing his appointment as a blessing to the area.
Guest speaker at the event, Dr. Kabir Abdullahi Yantumaki, praised the decision to prioritise youth and women as beneficiaries, noting that it would empower vulnerable groups in society.
Earlier, the Chairman of Matazu Local Government, Alhaji Shamsuddeen Sayaya, commended the contributions of political office holders to community development.
He highlighted the ongoing efforts of Governor Radda’s administration in addressing insecurity in the area, which he said had recorded noticeable improvement.
Other speakers at the event included Alhaji Abdu Shehu Daura and the Chairman of APC stakeholders in Matazu Local Government, Alhaji Abdu Dan Shehu Matazu.
