As Nigerians celebrate this year’s Independence Day, the management of Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, has acknowledged the unwavering commitment of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto to reviving the lost glory of the hospital as a leading centre for qualitative healthcare delivery and referral services in the state.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Attahiru Isah Sokoto, stated this while felicitating with Nigerians on the Independence Day celebration.
Dr. Attahiru said the present administration under Governor Ahmad Aliyu has placed the health sector as a top priority under its Nine-Point SMART Agenda, with Specialist Hospital Sokoto receiving special attention due to its strategic role in healthcare delivery.
According to the CMD, the state government has embarked on a comprehensive renovation and remodelling of the hospital, including rehabilitation of wards, theatre, laboratory and administrative blocks, as well as provision of modern medical equipment and essential drugs.
He added that the government has also addressed manpower deficit through recruitment of additional doctors, nurses and other health professionals, while improving welfare packages to boost morale and retain skilled personnel.
Dr. Isah explained that the intervention is aimed at restoring public confidence in the hospital, reducing medical tourism outside the state and ensuring that citizens have access to affordable and qualitative healthcare.
He assured that the management of the hospital under his stewardship will sustain monitoring and evaluation to ensure standard service delivery and optimal utilisation of facilities.
While commending the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruku Umar Abubakar Wurno, for his tireless efforts towards realising the governor’s vision for the health sector, the CMD appealed to the general public to always contact the management of the hospital for clarification on any issue, instead of spreading statements that have no iota of truth.
He also called on the public to use the period to pray fervently for Allah’s intervention against all challenges bedevilling society.
