The Katsina State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has launched a border awareness campaign aimed at improving security and curbing rising criminal activities along the state’s borders.

The campaign kicked off at the Nigeria–Niger Republic border in Jibia Local Government Area, where the State Director of NOA, Muhatari Lawal Tsagam, emphasized the importance of citizen involvement in protecting lives and property.

Speaking during the event, Tsagam said, “People residing at border areas should support government efforts to end insecurity by reporting suspicious individuals for prompt response by security agents.”

He added that the initiative seeks to complement government efforts in addressing crime, noting that criminals often exploit border areas to smuggle illegal weapons and illicit drugs. “During festive periods, criminal elements take advantage to sneak into the country and carry out unlawful activities,” he said.

Tsagam also urged parents to monitor their children to prevent drug abuse, and called on community and religious leaders to promote peaceful coexistence and mutual respect with neighboring communities in Niger Republic.

The NOA director commended the Katsina State Government for its measures to tackle insecurity, and said the campaign would be replicated across other border local governments, including Kaita, Mashi, Mai’adua, Zango, and Baure.
