The Northern Governors’ Wives Forum (NGWF), led by the wife of the Adamawa State Governor, Hajiya Lami Fintiri, has empowered no fewer than 1,200 vulnerable women and residents in Yola.
The intervention and empowerment programme was held as part of activities marking the 2nd Triennial Meeting of the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum at the Bouquet Hall, Government House, Yola.
Under the empowerment programme, 20 beneficiaries received N100,000 each, amounting to N2 million, while 1,000 vulnerable residents received financial assistance and food and household items.
Other beneficiaries received food and household items, including 20kg bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, gallons of groundnut oil, mats and blankets.
The programme featured an opening ceremony, presentation of cheques to beneficiaries and distribution of food and household items.
In her address, Hajiya Lami Fintiri explained that the intervention was aimed at cushioning the effects of hardship on vulnerable people.
She expressed appreciation to the wives of the Northern governors for attending the meeting and for their collaboration towards improving the welfare of women, youths and vulnerable persons across the region.
She urged the beneficiaries to make proper and productive use of the financial assistance and items provided to them.
The Governor’s wife said the intervention was aimed at supporting vulnerable members of society and improving their livelihoods.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Hajiya Lami Fintiri for the gesture, describing the assistance as timely and capable of helping them cope with the present economic hardship.
