The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council, has celebrated the Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Chronicle, Lady Florence Oluohu, on her retirement from active service, describing her career as a testament to professionalism, resilience, and excellence.
The Council Chairman, Comrade Archibong Bassey, conveyed the congratulatory message on behalf of the executives and members of the union, commending Oluohu for her contributions to journalism and her rise through the ranks to the position of Editor-in-Chief.
Bassey described Oluohu’s attainment of the top editorial position as a reflection of her hard work, competence, and commitment to the profession, noting that her career remains an inspiration to women journalists and younger practitioners.
“Lady Florence Oluohu has distinguished herself through years of dedication, professional excellence, and service to journalism.
“Her rise to the position of Editor-in-Chief is a testament to her resilience, competence, and commitment to the highest standards of our profession,” Bassey said.
She described Oluohu as a prolific writer and accomplished editor whose editorial judgment, depth of experience, and dedication to responsible journalism had contributed to the growth of the Nigerian Chronicle.
She also noted that her membership of the Nigeria Guild of Editors reflected her standing in the profession and commitment to advancing journalistic standards.
The NUJ chairman particularly commended Oluohu for mentoring younger journalists, noting that her guidance, encouragement, and willingness to share professional knowledge had helped nurture emerging talents in the media industry.
Bassey observed that Oluohu’s influence extended beyond the stories she had written and the editions she had supervised, adding that the professional values she had instilled in younger colleagues would continue to shape their careers.
“Beyond her achievements in the newsroom, Lady Florence has made a lasting impact through mentorship and the example she has set for younger journalists.
“Her experience and professional values will continue to benefit the journalism community long after her retirement from active service,” she added.
The Council noted that Oluohu’s 60th birthday and retirement provided an opportunity to celebrate her years of service, professional accomplishments, and contributions to journalism in Cross River State and Nigeria.
Bassey stressed that retirement from active service should not be seen as the end of Oluohu’s contributions to the profession, expressing confidence that her wealth of experience and insight would remain valuable to journalism.
The NUJ Cross River State Council congratulated Lady Florence Oluohu on attaining the age of 60 and completing her active service, wishing her good health, peace, happiness, and a fulfilling retirement, with more opportunities to enjoy time with family and loved ones.
