Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday launched a major food donation programme for vulnerable groups in Yobe State, under the Renewed Hope Initiative aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable citizens across the country.
In a statement by the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor of Yobe State, Mamman Mohammed the First Lady — represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima — said the gesture was part of a broader food outreach scheme designed to cushion hardship among the less privileged.
Mrs Tinubu explained that the Renewed Hope Initiative targets women in agriculture, providing them with training, start-up kits, and production resources to enhance food security.
She  noted that the programme aligns with both national and state agricultural policies geared toward reducing dependence on food importation.
According to her, the initiative also caters to senior citizens and persons with special needs, including access to free medical support.
“Under this scheme, 200 people will receive similar support in each of the 36 states,” she stated. “Our mission is to empower households, strengthen communities, and restore hope among our most vulnerable groups.”
Wife of the Yobe State Governor and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Hajiya Hafsat Mai Mala Buni, commended the First Lady for her compassion and commitment to uplifting vulnerable citizens.
“We wish to register our profound gratitude for this show of love and support,” she said. “The administration of my husband, Governor Mai Mala Buni, has fully keyed into this initiative with massive interventions for women, children, and other vulnerable groups.”
Hafsat Buni highlighted the state government’s ongoing efforts to empower women through household support, skills acquisition, and economic recovery programmes, noting that a large number of women have already benefited from the state’s post-insurgency recovery plan.
She also disclosed that Yobe has established eight girls’ secondary schools across the state to promote girl-child education, with more to come.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to partnering with the Renewed Hope Initiative.
He assured that his administration would continue to prioritise policies and programmes that empower women and improve the wellbeing of vulnerable groups across the state.
