The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) in the North West, Major General W.B. Idris, has directed troops of the 8 Division and Sector 2 OPFY to intensify operations against armed bandits and ensure their complete elimination from the region.

The directive was made during his maiden operational assessment visit to the 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 at Giginya Barracks, Sokoto, a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Deputy Director, 8 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, revealed.

General Idris said the visit aimed to assess troop performance, review training protocols, and monitor the welfare of soldiers wounded in action.

He urged troops to prepare psychologically for a new, high-intensity phase of the operation.

“The tempo of this battle to eliminate bandits completely is just starting. This can only be achieved through courage, discipline, and dedication of our troops confronting the nation’s security challenges,” he said.

He further assured that advanced combat resources and logistical support would be provided to enhance operational effectiveness.

The Theatre Commander commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 OPFY, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, for his proactive leadership in addressing security threats in the sector’s area of responsibility.

During the visit, General Idris interacted with soldiers wounded in action, pledging they would receive the best possible care. He also shared a meal with frontline troops at the 248 Battalion in Ilela to boost morale.

Earlier, the GOC briefed the Theatre Commander on operational achievements, training activities, and logistical challenges.
