The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won all the 21 chairmanship seats and 226 councillorship positions contested in Saturday’s local government election in Adamawa State.
The Chairman of the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), Mohammed Umar, announced the results on Monday in Yola, the state capital.
Declaring the outcome, Umar said the PDP secured victory in all the chairmanship and councillorship contests across the state’s 21 local government areas and 226 wards following the final collation of results.
According to him, “Following the final collation of results, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won all the 21 chairmanship seats contested in the state.
“The party also won all the 226 councillorship seats across the wards. The election was conducted peacefully.”
The ADSIEC chairman further disclosed that although 11 political parties initially expressed interest in participating in the election, only four eventually took part.
He listed the participating parties as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Umar commended stakeholders for their cooperation and noted that the election process was peaceful across the state.
