From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
A member of the Katsina State House of Assembly representing Dandume constituency, Hon. Yahaya Nuhu Mahuta, has described peace deals with bandits in the state as the most effective way to restore and sustain peace in affected communities.
Mahuta said such agreements, initiated by local communities, have also revitalized economic activities in areas previously plagued by insecurity.
Speaking with newsmen, the lawmaker noted that local governments that entered into peace agreements with bandits now enjoy relative peace and safety.
He cited his constituency, Dandume, as an example, recalling that before the peace deal, the area suffered frequent attacks and kidnappings.
“My local government, Dandume, is one of the areas implementing peace deals with bandits,” Mahuta said. “We are now enjoying peace. People can engage in economic activities freely without fear of attacks by the bandits.”
The lawmaker commended the collaborative efforts of community leaders, religious and traditional rulers for ensuring the successful implementation of the peace agreement in the area.
He also lauded the Katsina State government under Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for its proactive role in tackling insecurity and supporting initiatives aimed at restoring peace across the state.
