About 100 motorcycles, raincoats and rain boots have been distributed to Security Agencies in Plateau State in an effort by the state government to tackle insecurity in the state, especially during ring this farming season.

While presenting the motorcycles to the Governor Barr.Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang on Thursday by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Arch.Samuel Jatau at the Old Government House Rayfield Jos.

He said the motorcycle, the raincoat and the rain boots will be shared among the Security Agencies to be used for patrol all around the state.

According to him,30 motorcycles to the Military,130 raincoats, and 130 rain boots, while the Nigerian Police Force gets 5 motorcycles,130 raincoats and 130 rain boots, while the NSCDC  have 30 motorcycles,60 raincoats and 60 rain boots.

He further explained that the DSS gets 5 motorcycles,20 raincoats, and 20 rain boots, while Operation Rainbow has 5 motorcycles,50 raincoats and 50 rain boots, and the Immigration Service will have 3 Motorcycles,20 raincoats and 20 rainboots.

Also, FRSC will have 20 raincoats and 20 rainboots and Correctional Service will have 10 raincoats and 10 rainboots among others

While handing the motorcycle, the Plateau State Governor Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang to the security Agencies for onward distribution and explained that the motorcycles were specifically meant for round-the-clock surveillance in the bush and would enable security forces to access areas where vehicles cannot reach.

According to him, the distribution is part of the state government’s efforts to enhance security and protect farmers in the state.

To government has procured the first batch of motorcycles to be used for round-the-clock surveillance. This is particularly important to ensure that the security forces give cover to our farmers.

He said, we have trusted God that this year tur farmers should go back to arms, and many of them have done so, and you know that the activities of bandits have not been seized, but with these motorcycles, they will be able to enter into every nook and cranny of the state”.

The Governor further explained that the motorcycles are not meant for use in towns and will be seized if found being used for that purpose.

While making it clear that the distribution we have made is specifically to be used in the bush, and if any is seen within the town, it will be seized.

According to him, the state has made significant strides in identifying the hiding places and entry points of criminals in the state, saying that massive investments have been made in technology, which will be unveiled soon.

He noted that the motorcycles are expected to enhance the productivity of security agencies in the state, particularly in protecting farmers.

Responding, Alexander Barude, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), appreciated the state government for the gesture and promised that farmers would be adequately protected in their farms.

He said the distribution of motorcycles, raincoats and rain boots is a significant step towards addressing the security challenges in Plateau State.

According to him, the motorcycles will enable security agencies to respond quickly to distress calls and patrol areas that were previously inaccessible. The raincoats and rain boots will also ensure that security personnel are protected from the elements while on duty.
