The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Plateau State has commenced a specialized training programme for over 150 Agro Rangers personnel under the state command.

Our correspondent reports that the training, which began on Monday at the NSCDC Command and Staff College in Naton, Fobur, Jos East Local Government Area, aims to enhance the capacity and operational efficiency of the Agro Rangers in protecting farmers and agro-allied investments.

Declaring the training open on behalf of the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Assistant Commandant General in charge of Training and Manpower Development, Lawal Muktar, said the initiative reflects the Corps’ commitment to addressing security challenges in rural communities.

“In line with the Commandant General’s vision, the Agro Rangers are a crucial component of the NSCDC’s strategy to reduce conflicts in farming communities and protect food production zones nationwide,” he said.

He urged the trainees to approach the training with seriousness, stressing that security challenges in agricultural communities require not only tactical skills but also discipline, knowledge, and strategic engagement.

“Let this training equip you with practical skills, as well as a deeper understanding of community relations, intelligence gathering, and conflict resolution,” he added.

Muktar commended the Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his unwavering support and collaboration with the NSCDC, especially in prioritizing the safety of the agricultural sector.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the Plateau State Commandant and the training facilitators for their role in organizing the programme.

In his remarks, the State Commandant of NSCDC, CC Ishaku Musa, described the event as the official launch of the premier Agro-Regional Training Programme under what he termed the “Class Restrict Committee.”

He lauded the governor for creating an enabling environment and supporting the initiative, which he said would go a long way in ensuring the protection of farmers, herders, and other agricultural stakeholders.

Commandant Musa also praised the Commandant General, Dr. Audi, for approving the monthly training of 150 Agro Rangers, describing it as a proactive step toward improving food security in Nigeria.

He recognized several community leaders and stakeholders, including His Royal Highness Kwanomorimada King Isa Aju and the former Head of Service, Izam Azi, for their contributions to the success of the programme.

“We have come in peace, and through peace, we believe we can live together harmoniously,” he assured the host community.

Also speaking, the Assistant Commandant of the Institute, ACG David Abi, charged the trainees to remain focused and disciplined throughout the training, warning that any act of misconduct would be treated with seriousness.

Community stakeholders, including the Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Ajiji Isaac Madaki, and the former Head of Service, expressed delight over the siting of the training institute in the community.

They thanked the governor for converting the previously constructed hospital facility into a training center and appreciated the NSCDC and its leadership for bringing the programme to Naton.

The stakeholders assured the Corps of the community’s peaceful nature and pledged their full cooperation to ensure the success of the training and future programmes. They also expressed optimism that the institute’s presence would improve security in the area.
