The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Ason Onen Usang, in Abi Local Government Area and recovered an unregistered Dayang motorcycle suspected to have been stolen from Ikom Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was arrested at about 9:00 p.m. on September 9, 2026, by operatives of the Ekori Police Division while allegedly attempting to sell the motorcycle.
The motorcycle bears Chassis No. LKIPCKL10M1086477 and Engine No. DY156EMI7133995.
According to the police, the suspect claimed to have purchased the motorcycle from an unknown person but could not provide the identity of the alleged seller, purchase documents or any verifiable evidence of the transaction.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to establish the motorcycle’s origin, identify its rightful owner and trace the alleged seller.
The investigation will also determine whether other individuals were involved in the suspected theft.
The Command has appealed to anyone who recognises the motorcycle or has information that could assist in locating its rightful owner to contact the Police Public Relations Officer on 07067977330 or 09058273057, or report to the nearest police station.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Eitokpah Sunday Akata, told our correspondent that upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspect and any other person found culpable would be charged to court in accordance with the law.
Akata also said the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, psc, mnips, mspsp, had reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating property-related crimes, recovering stolen property and supporting victims in their pursuit of justice.
