The Kano State Commissioner for Environment, Honourable Hamza Safiyanu Kachako, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as significant achievements in infrastructural development and the transformation of government institutions across the state.
Kachako made the commendation while expressing his appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the state government, describing Governor Yusuf as a leader who has introduced new approaches to governance and development.
According to him, the governor has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to infrastructural renewal, adding that several ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) have benefited from the administration’s rehabilitation and modernisation initiatives within its first term.
The commissioner cited the rehabilitation of the lift at Gidan Murtala as an example of the administration’s efforts to revive public infrastructure.
He explained that the facility, which had remained non-functional for a long period, was restored to operation following Governor Yusuf’s approval and had been functioning for about a year.
Kachako said the development reflected the governor’s broader commitment to revitalising government infrastructure and improving public service delivery.
He added that the administration had extended its development initiatives to various sectors, including education and other critical areas of the state economy.
The commissioner also expressed optimism that the ongoing infrastructural development would attract more foreign investors and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to Kano State.
He further acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor at the Ministry of Environment, noting that the outgoing commissioner had made significant efforts towards advancing the ministry’s responsibilities.
Kachako assured residents that his administration would sustain and strengthen environmental sanitation activities, particularly waste collection and refuse disposal across the state.
He disclosed that the ministry had directed the installation of dustbins at strategic public locations to improve waste management and discourage indiscriminate refuse disposal.
He added that arrangements were being made to provide dustbins to adaidaita operators to encourage proper waste disposal among commercial transport operators and their passengers.
The commissioner also assured residents that waste recycling centres would receive attention and that refuse evacuation vehicles would continue operating to ensure effective waste collection across Kano State.
He pledged to discharge his responsibilities diligently and contribute his quota towards achieving the administration’s development agenda, particularly in environmental management and community sanitation.
Kachako described his appointment as an opportunity to serve the people of Kano State and expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for the confidence reposed in him.
He expressed the hope that Governor Yusuf would complete his eight-year tenure and possibly serve the country at the national level after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing such an ambition as his personal prayer rather than a position communicated to him by the governor.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to supporting the state government’s development agenda and ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
