The Plateau State Nigerian Union of Journalists kick-started their Press Week on Monday with the cleaning of the streets as part of their activities to create awareness among the citizens on how to keep their environment clean.
The activities lined up for the one-week Press week, Tuesday’s free medical treatment, and Wednesday’s football match with Plateau United Staff.
Thursday is the main program, Friday prayers at the Central Mosque, and Saturday is the cultural day, and it would be rounded up on Sunday with a Thanksgiving service at ECWA headquarters.
During the cleaning of the environment and streets in Jos, the metropolitan Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) commends the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Plateau State Council for the successful commencement of their 2024 Press Week, which began with a significant Community Service activity today at the Jos City Centre.
Members of the NUJ took to the streets in a cleanup exercise, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment.
The dump trucks were on-site to promptly collect the waste gathered by the volunteers, ensuring the city’s main hub was left cleaner and more inviting.
This effort by the NUJ underscores the importance of professional bodies taking an active role in environmental stewardship. It also serves as a strong message to all residents and businesses in Plateau state about the need for proper waste management.
We cannot stress enough the significance of disposing of waste in designated areas rather than dumping it on our streets.
Our correspondent reports that a cleaner environment is a shared responsibility, and it begins with each of us adopting better waste disposal habits.
We applaud the NUJ for leading by example and encourage others to follow suit. As we continue to work together towards a cleaner Plateau State, PEPSA remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and public health.
Also speaking, the NU Chairman, Mrs Ayuku Pwaspo, said it is the desire of the media to see the state environment is clean and the State return to the home of peace and tourism.
She added that the state is known for, and the state cannot be home to peace and tourism when dirt is seen everywhere, on the street.
