The Kano State Police Command and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have strengthened their working relationship to improve disaster response and ensure the protection of lives and property across the state.

This followed a courtesy visit by the North-West Zonal Director of NEMA, Alhaji Aliyu S. Kafindangi who led a delegation to the Commissioner of Police Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano.

The meeting focused on reinforcing the existing collaboration between both agencies in the areas of emergency management, disaster response and public safety.

Speaking during the visit, Kafindangi said the Police remain a vital stakeholder in disaster management due to their frontline role in emergency situations.

According to him, police officers are often the first responders who secure affected areas before other emergency agencies move in to provide assistance.

He said the visit was aimed at consolidating the already existing partnership and identifying new areas of cooperation that would better serve the people of Kano State.

Responding, CP Bakori described the visit as timely and significant, noting that both institutions share a common responsibility of safeguarding lives and maintaining public safety.

He said the Police and NEMA operate hand in hand in emergency situations and assured the agency of the Command readiness to continue working closely with it to achieve shared objectives.

The Commissioner added that the Command remains committed to supporting all relevant agencies through effective security coverage, intelligence sharing and coordinated operations.

Discussions at the meeting also centred on joint training programmes, strategic engagements, and improved information sharing mechanisms to enhance emergency preparedness and coordinated response across the state.

CP Bakori reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to inter-agency cooperation in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu on intelligence-led and community-oriented policing.

He assured residents that the Kano State Police Command would continue to collaborate with NEMA and other stakeholders to build safer and more resilient communities.
